6TH GRADE SCIENCE FAIR S.T.E.M. PROJECT IS DUE

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2019


SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS WERE ASSIGNED!
ALL PACKETS AND GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN HANDED OUT AND DISCUSSED.

WE WILL BE COMPLETING TOPIC 6" is WEATHER IN THE ATMOSPHERE!
There is a Quizlet available to study.

WORKBOOKS WILL BE COLLECTED AND MARKED THIS WEDNESDAY, 2/27/19


Tests need to be signed and returned.

Our discussions and hands-on labs  promises to create challenging and exciting learning experience!

WE COMPLETED OUR LAB AND PACKET ON TOPOGRAPHICAL MAPS. 

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR OWL PELLET DISSECTION.

We have been working with a new science book this year - Elevate Science - which includes many hands-on activities, online interaction and the ability to highlight and keep notes in the textbook.
We have taken advantage of some of hands-on activities such as Surface Tension (floating paper clips on water) and LOSING the surface tension with detergent (breaking chemical bonds) and Gas Laws involving both Boyle's and Charles' Law using balloons.


This year our curriculum will cover topics such as:

Science and Laboratory Safety (We will be using the lab on bi-weekly basis.)
MATTER - Observing, measuring & using matter 
SOLIDS, LIQUIDS & GASES - Changes of State / Gas Behavior
ENERGY - Motion, Force & Work / Kinetic vs. Potential Energy
THERMAL ENERGY - Heat, Temperature & Heat Transfer

THERE WILL BE A STRONG EMPHASIS ON EARTH SCIENCE:
Introduction to Earth's Systems
(Geosphere / Hydrosphere)
Weather in the Atmosphere
Rocks & Minerals
Plate Tectonics
Earth's Surface
(Erosion & Deposition)

  Student's grades will be listed on Powerschool.

***Students have the benefit of using the Study Guide Workbook In addition
there will be Vocabulary Quizlet games and Study Chapter Reviews including all Key Terms***(at the end of each chapter)

This year the sixth grade will be scaffolding (growing) many of  last year's concepts and also have been putting a main focus on Earth science.

We will be meeting daily and homework will be given on this page. However, it is very important that students also put all assignments in their planners in order to organize the books and supplies they need to take home each day.

There will be a week's notice prior to each test and they will be listed on this page.
There should be no weekend homework other than long-range projects and studying for tests.

There will be extra help for sixth grade on Tuesday mornings beginning at 8:10 A.M.
The S.T.E.M. Program will be announced.

The Science schedule for 6th Grade Science is on:

Monday: FULL CLASS 10:10 - 10:50
Tuesday: 9:28 -10:08 - K-1 / 11:34 - 12:14 - K-2
Wednesday: NO CLASS
Thursday: FULL CLASS 1:01 - 1:41
Friday: FULL CLASS 9:28 - 10:08

S.T.E.M. schedule: Thursday 1:00 P.M..

Please check the Parent Portal to keep you updated on your student's progress.
All tests must be signed and returned.

THIS WEEK'S CLASSWORK: H.W. WILL BE ASSIGNED IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
